Big Trouble in Little China

George worked at Richard Edlund’s Boss Film Studios, under creature effects supervisor Steve Johnson, on two of John Carpenter’s creatures.

The sewer monster

The project’s internal research attributes work on the bloated sewer creature to George. The public interview linked below does not establish his exact part of that build, so the credit remains provisional until a crew or production source is attached.

The floating eye guardian

George’s account is specific here. He said Steve put him in charge of designing and finishing the floating eye. Jim Kagel sculpted it; George painted it and directed twenty second-unit puppeteering shots. The source is linked below so the division of work can be checked against his own words. ¹

This was also where George met Steve Wang, another young sculptor on the Boss Film creature crew. The two would work together again on Predator, both moving to Stan Winston Studio afterward, and later co-direct The Guyver (1991).
