Big Trouble in Little China

George worked at Richard Edlund’s Boss Film Studios, under creature effects supervisor Steve Johnson, on two of John Carpenter’s creatures.

George is often credited with work on the bloated sewer creature, but the public interview linked below does not establish his part in that build, so the credit stays provisional until a crew or production source turns up.

On the floating eye guardian, George’s account is specific. He said Steve Johnson put him in charge of designing and finishing the eye. Jim Kagel sculpted it; George painted it and directed twenty second-unit puppeteering shots. ¹

This was also where George met Steve Wang, another young sculptor on the Boss Film creature crew. When the Predator creature moved from Boss to Stan Winston Studio, Wang went on to help build it there. George also turns up on the Winston crew for that job, though when he joined isn’t established. The two later co-directed The Guyver (1991).
