Early shop work on Carpenter’s kitchen-sink adventure — at Richard Edlund’s Boss Film Studios, under creature effects supervisor Steve Johnson. George sculpted the bloated, anglerfish-mouthed sewer monster and worked on the floating eye guardian — an all-seeing ball of eyes and skin, an early appearance of the eye motif that follows his whole career.
