Brian Yuzna produced it, Martin Kitrosser directed, and The Toy Maker was shot back-to-back with Initiation on the same Trimark schedule, reusing crew and sets to make the direct-to-video budget stretch across two pictures. George’s shop, credited alongside Tom Rainone for special makeup and mechanical effects, built the film’s catalog of murderous toys: clockwork soldiers, the legged Santa Ball and Larry the Larva, a centipede-like creature. Larry’s attack uses a duplicate head so the toy can enter through the mouth and emerge at the eye. The credit supports the department; a prop-by-prop shop breakdown still needs a crew source.
The climax reveals that the toy maker’s son Pino (Brian Bremer) is an android. Damage peels back his face to expose a compact interior of gears and wiring. The manufactured layers distinguish him from George’s more organic creature work without requiring an unsupported ranking of the film’s mechanisms.
